Surrey has a population of approximately 1.1 million and is one of the Home Counties. It borders Greater London, Berkshire, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. The town with the highest population in Surrey is Guildford with a population of over 66,000. This is closely followed by Woking with a population of over 62,000 and towns within the population bracket of 25,000 – 30,000 include Ashford, Epsom, Farnham, Staines and Redhill. Although the historic county town is Guildford, Surrey County council sits at Kingston on Thames which is officially part of Greater London. Many areas considered by many to be parts of Surrey are, in actual fact part of Greater London. These areas include: Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, Barnes and Richmond.
Surrey, as it stands today, consists of 11 boroughs and districts which are: Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking. surrey is a vey affluent county, and outside of London, it has has the highest cost of living in the UK.
